Week 9 in the US: Air & Space Edition!
A belated update. It’s been pretty hectic around here with work and what not.
Most people probably don’t know this but I love space stuff ever since I was a kid! I don’t know much about them but I sure do love rockets and spaceships!
A while after I got back from NYC I discovered that there is actually a space shuttle on display in Manhattan and I completely missed it! I was more devastated than missing out on seeing lady liberty up close.
Luckily, the Discovery space shuttle at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is only an hour drive from where I am. So, I finally went with a buddy on Sunday to check it out.
It was super cool to see the space shuttle in person! I got goosebumps when I caught my first glimpse of it at the entrance. It was super awesome being able standing up close to it! It was also very interesting to finally put its size and scale into perspective after first seeing it on TV and photos back when I was a kid.
The Discovery Orbiter flew into orbit 39 times over 27 years of service. It is the space shuttle with the most number of space flights to date!
I also got to see the SR-71 Blackbird. The world’s fastest air breathing aircraft where the standard evasive action was simply to accelerate and outfly the threat!
There was also plenty of other cool planes and aerospace artefacts at the museum. Definitely worth the trip!
I have also discovered and fallen in love with bomber jackets. I want one so bad….
This is a post originally posted to my Instagram account. In the interest of preserving the weekly photo journal for my US 2018 trip. I am republishing them here on my own blog (with corrections and sometimes new photos).
